Free Our People
Western PA ADAPT organizes disability rights activists to engage in nonviolent direct action, including civil disobedience, to assure the civil and human rights of people with disabilities to live in freedom at local, state and national levels.
We fight to free our people from nursing homes and other institutions.
We tackle other issues as well:
- Government accountability in Pennsylvania an at a national level
- Americans with Disabilities Act advocacy and enforcement
- Civil rights advocacy
- Affordable, accessible, integrated housing
- Home and community based services
- Accessible public transportation
Through our actions (as we call our protests) Western PA ADAPT seeks to challenge the view that people with disabilities are helpless, sick, vulnerable and unable to direct our own lives.
Western PA ADAPT actions have two goals: to create change addressing the issues we identify, and to empower people with disabilities to take control of our destiny and create a real place in society.
