Durable Medical Equipment

DME ReUse Program

This program takes in donations of gently used equipment, sanitizes it, and redistributes it to people in need. The equipment must be beneficial and safe for someone to use. Reuse programs create an opportunity for those who need assistive devices to obtain them at low cost or no costs. An added “green” benefit is keeping usable equipment out of landfills.

These efforts help to get useful devises out of attics and garages and into the hands of people with disabilities who need them. Items such as walkers, manual and power wheelchairs, transfer chairs, raised toilet seats, tub benches, reacher tools and any other equipment that helps with independence may be accepted.

This program is made possible in part through funds from TechOwl (a part of the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University) which manages Pennsylvania’s Initiative on Assistive Technology (PIAT) which is funded through a grant from the Administration on Community Living, US Department of Health and Human Services.

Available items can be reserved and picked up from our Croton Avenue location or arrangements can be made for pickup in DON’s offices in Greensburg or Penn Hills.

If we do not have an items that is needed, we will refer you to other potentials resources.
