Advocacy

Advocacy is one of our core services at Disability Options Network. Our main goal is to teach people with disabilities how to advocate for themselves. Advocacy is defined as providing information and assistance to people with disabilities and their families. Advocacy is aiding in accessing benefits, support systems, and promoting changes that enhance full access to the community. Independent Living Coordinators will assist a person with learning to advocate for themselves over time. Systems Advocacy is working with groups of people with disabilities on a united local, state, or national disability issue.

The ultimate goal of advocacy is to enable the individual with a disability to become a full participant within his or her community.

There are times when even the best self-advocates need help and we’re here to assist!! With the help of our consumer advocates, we advocate on a state and national level for the rights of persons with disabilities.

If you need advocacy or would like to help us advocate for disability rights, please feel free to contact us. DON would be happy to assist you or have your assistance in this very important part of what we do.
